2026 Catalunya MotoGP Sprint Race: Acosta on Pole, Morbidelli & Marquez Chase (2026)

The 2026 Catalunya MotoGP Sprint race is set to be an intriguing affair, with Pedro Acosta leading the charge from pole position. Acosta, a factory KTM star, is on a mission to secure his second career Sprint victory, following his triumph at the season-opening Buriram Sprint. His consistent pace-setting form on Friday has earned him the top spot on the grid, ahead of Franco Morbidelli and Alex Marquez.

Morbidelli, who topped Qualifying 1, is having a strong season and will start from a favorable position. Meanwhile, Marquez, the defending Barcelona grand prix winner, will start from the outside of the front row on the factory-spec GP26. The Aprilia rider Raul Fernandez, who emerged as the leading Aprilia rider in fourth, will be joined on the front row by Johann Zarco and Fabio di Giannantonio.

Fabio Quartararo, who continued his momentum from last weekend, secured seventh place on the Yamaha V4, ahead of Brad Binder (KTM) and Jorge Martin (Aprilia). However, there were some surprises, as both Le Mans double winner Martin and title-leading team-mate Marco Bezzecchi crashed during qualifying. Bezzecchi, who holds a one-point lead over Martin, starts just twelfth on the grid, behind Jack Miller.

Pecco Bagnaia, who failed to make it past Qualifying 1, lines up 13th. Tech3's Maverick Vinales, who will start his first race since Brazil, will begin from 17th. Yamaha test rider Augusto Fernandez, who joined Martin and Fermin Aldeguer in suffering a Q1 fall, starts ahead of Toprak Razgatlioglu in 21st.

Marc Marquez, the reigning champion, is unfortunately missing this weekend's event due to shoulder and foot surgery. The Ducati Lenovo rider Bagnaia is the only one representing the team. There are currently no penalties, and the 12-lap Catalunya Sprint will commence at 3 pm local time (2 pm UK).

This race promises to be a thrilling spectacle, with Acosta's pole position and the strong performances of Morbidelli and Fernandez setting the stage for an exciting sprint. The absence of Marquez and the crashes involving Martin and Bezzecchi add an element of unpredictability, making it a must-watch event for MotoGP enthusiasts.
